Policy Justice Legislative Fellow

Native Movement is an Indigenous-led statewide Alaskan nonprofit organization. Native Movement is facilitating meaningful Indigenous participation in environmental, climate, gender, and policy justice. As a full-time fellow, my duties include:

  • Following bills in Alaskan legislation to determine how the proposed bills will affect Alaska Native communities. Specifically, following bills regarding Missing and Murdered Indigenous people, community safety, accessible healthcare, and environmental regulations.
  • Organizes events to promote awareness of specific pieces of legislation.
  • Traveling to rural Alaska Native communities to provide voters with educational resources.
  • Collaborating with local Indigenous leaders to understand communities' specific needs, in order to have effective outreach for increasing voter engagement.

Program Coordinator II

Raise Program supports Alaska Native and American Indian youth in graduating high school. This program encourages Indigenous youth to develop professionally, spiritually, and culturally. Duties as a full-time Program Coordinator included:

  • Onboarded and hired over 20 high school interns based on their graduation track status.
  • Maintained up-to-date records related to program activities.
  • Planned and organized a two-day camping trip with 60 high school students, Southcentral Foundation leadership, and Board of Directors.
  • Managed Raise Programs assets, including two off-site storage units, 7 sprinter vans, and electronics.
  • I created an organization system for the storage units and implemented a routine schedule for vehicle maintenance and electronics.

Akima is a government contracting agency that is owned by Northwest Arctic Native Association (NANA). Akima owns over 40 subsidiaries around the country, mainly supporting aerospace solutions, IT, logistics, and system engineering.

As a part-time Marketing Specialist, my duties were to:

  • Market to NANA shareholders about job opportunities within Akima subsidiaries and government contracting.
  • Educated Akima employees on Inupiaq culture, so they could better support Alaska Native Shareholders.

Digital Media Fellow

The All our Kin Collective is a program dedicated to Language Revitalization in Indigenous communities in the Durango, Colorado area. As a part-time fellow, my duties included:

  • Implemented and researched Mukurtu, an archival database for Indigenous communities, as a tool to preserve artifacts, language, and stories.
  • Designed a working logo for All our Kin Collective to use that is inclusive to all Native American and Alaska Native Tribes.
  • The logo represents generations of traditional knowledge and opportunity for growth.
  • Met with the Principal Investigator weekly to discuss the All our Kin Collective's communication needs. This included building an outline for the program website, designing a brochure, and creating a style guide to strengthen the program's brand recognition.
  • Collaborated with other Fellows in order to identify areas for improvement.

Native Skyway to Success, Student Leader

Fort Lewis College represents 170 Native American and Alaska Native Tribes. The Native American Center is a resource center for Native American and Alaska Native students. Native Skyway to Success is a way for incoming freshmen to acquaint themselves with Fort Lewis College's campus. Duties as a Student Leader were:

  • Assisted 10 incoming freshmen with finding their dorm, finding their classes, and showing them additional resources around campus before school starts.
  • Facilitated Ice Breakers daily for freshmen to socialize and engage with each other.
  • Taught incoming freshmen about Alaska Native Culture and resources on campus for students to utilize.

Summer Intern Supervisor

  • Assisted interns who were entering college on their Alaska Native Regional Corporations Scholarships.

  • Created marketing materials following Akima's brand guidelines.

The All our Kin Collective is a program dedicated to Language Revitalization in Indigenous communities in the Durango, Colorado area. The summer language institute was a three-week course designed for Fort Lewis College students learning their Native language. Peer Educators' duties were:

  • Worked with Inupiaq, Cherokee, Navajo, and Hopi students to find similarities in each other's language and culture.
  • Facilitated discussions on emotions around language revitalization.
  • Assisted students with StoryCenter projects for their final presentation.

Projects

The Stories We Wear, Fort Lewis College, Durango, CO, 06/01/22-12/01/22, The Stories We Wear is a community art project that raised awareness on Missing and Murdered Indigenous People. I was the project coordinator on this project that received national recognition on Rocky Mountain PBS. Which was a collaboration between Rising Matriarchs and the Center of Southwest Studies. This project included various Native traditional garments from different regions of the United States. The traditional garments included artwork from over 30 students, staff, and faculty which was the largest participated art project in Fort Lewis College’s history.
