  • Performs the conventional and/or Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) machines lays out work from blueprints, drawings and sketches, work orders, model of parts to be made or other specifications.
  • Applies shop mathematics and handbook formulas to compute and establish dimensions for planning and laying out the work.

  • Sets up and operates conventional machine tools such as lathes, vertical and horizontal boring mills, vertical, or horizontal milling machines, shapers, planers, internal and external grinders, radial drills and jig bores holding tolerances as close as + or - .0001 of an inch in carrying out work assignments that typically involve machining of surfaces.
  • Adapts machinery available and makes changes or innovations in setups in order to accomplish assignments and achieve specific dimensions and tolerances.
  • Works with such metals as brass, steel, copper, aluminum, cast iron and occasionally plastic.
  • Determines from applicable drawings, operations required to produce the item and the different kinds of cams needed to control feed, speed and sequence of operations.
