Results-driven agricultural intern at Arkansas Agriculture Forestry Division, adept in tree nursery operations and inventory management. Demonstrated strong problem-solving and communication skills while enhancing teamwork and adaptability. Successfully maintained organized inventory and contributed to nursery productivity, fostering a deeper appreciation for sustainable agriculture practices.
Over the past month, I have participated in an agricultural internship where I gained hands-on experience in tree nursery operations and inventory management. My responsibilities included reviewing and recording inventory for swamp oak and white oak trees, maintaining accurate records, and helping ensure the nursery’s inventory was organized. I also learned how tree sales are tracked, including that the nursery receives $0.33 for each tree sold, which showed me the importance of accurate inventory management.
Throughout the internship, I completed a variety of outdoor tasks that helped keep the nursery healthy and productive. These included removing weeds from potted trees, cutting vines that had grown over the trees, and helping install irrigation lines using aluminum pipes so the trees would receive enough water. I also worked through rows, or risers, of trees to complete inventory checks and maintenance. Some days presented unexpected challenges, such as dealing with bees and wasps or working in extreme heat, but I learned how to adapt, follow safety procedures, and continue working efficiently.
The internship also strengthened my teamwork and communication skills. I worked with supervisors, teammates, and other workers to complete daily assignments, while also learning to work independently when needed. This experience has given me a better understanding of how a tree nursery operates and has increased my appreciation for the work that goes into growing and maintaining healthy trees. Overall, the internship has helped me develop responsibility, problem-solving skills, and a stronger interest in pursuing a future career in agriculture.
