The ticket attendant sells Carousel and Kiddie Ride tickets to the public.
As the ticket attendant is the first Carousel personnal the public encounters, the attendant must represent the Carousel and Forever Balboa Park well by being friendly and courteous.
The attendant must have basic math and computer skills for calculating the ticket purchasing transactions and entering them into the system. At the beginning of their shift the attendant writes down the ticket starting numbers and at the end of their shift the ticket finish numbers.
If the attendant sees any suspicious-acting people, they need to notify the Carousel Operator via the intercom.
At the end of the day, the attendant exits the ticket box only after ensuring that there is another employee present to watch their back. The attendant then quickly brings the backpack with the day's cash proceeds inside the Carousel's building and gives it to the Operator.
Carousel Assistant
Forever Balboa Park
San Diego, California
07.2022 - 09.2025
The Carousel Assistant collects tickets from carousel patrons before the ride starts. After the ride begins, the assistant operates the carousel's famous brass ring game by swinging a mechanical arm out so that riders on the outside carousel animals can grab rings that come out of the end of the arm. There are approximately three iron rings per player and one or two brass rings at the finish depending upon how many players there are. If there are five or more riders playing, there are two brass rings. After the game is over, the Carousel Assistant jumps on the moving carousel and collects any iron rings the rides may still have. Carousel Assistants also collect the brass ring or rings from the winner for a free ticket. Then moves to the front of the carousel and waits for the ride to stop. Once the ride has come to a full top, the Carousel Assistant opens the carousel's two gates and welcomes the next group of patrons to the carousel.
Carousel Assistants must be athletic and have good eye-hand coordination for jumping on and odd the moving carousel. Carousel Assistants must also be customer-oriented at all times: very friendly and courteous when collecting tickets and interacting with the public.
