I have always had a passion for making people feel good about themselves and when I was no longer able to do hair I felt called to the social service world which has always been a passion of mine. While I was a one on one job coach for Integrated Resources Institute I was able to connect with the special needs adults instantly and became a positive force for them. In 2020 when we were shut down for a bit til it was safe to return to work one of the employers told the director that he would take back one of the girls I was working with only if I was going to be with her due to the fact there were never any issues with her when I was there. I had another girl who had disciplinary issues, I had filled in for her coach and the special needs girl kept begging my manager for me to work with her again so I took on extra shifts to work with her in independent living services and became a mentor for her. Other coaches always had issues with her and I never did. I was also job coaching a girl with intellectual disability and made the discovery during the shut down that the company that took care of her home life was taking advantage of her especially financially. During the shut down we were still checking in daily with phone calls so it allowed her to open up to me. She was afraid to talk to anyone and I'm a strong believer in see something, say something. I was able to guide her who to talk to her support coordinator and was on zoom meetings with her for support. She got into a new agency and was ecstatic with her personal life.
During the shut down IRI was able to keep us working by assigning 29 accredited courses with Open Future Learning. Since I was brand new to the industry I feel like those courses helped with understanding of everything.
I moved to Utah in 2021 and became employed part-time with Innovative Harbor while taking care of my 92 year old mother. While employed with Innovative I was a job coach as well as doing supported living. I was having the exact same results as I did in CA with being able to make a positive difference in the clients lives in what ever capacity. In April 2024 I went to full-time and became the lead for day support group.
