At OCH I had the experience to not do team nursing. At NMMC, it was team nursing so at OCH it was more hands on. Nursing was still the same just no team nursing. I am comfortable with doing both. I enjoyed getting the full MedSurg experience because I got the opportunity to see many different things.

During my experience at North Mississippi. I’ve seen and done many things. I’ve worked with chest tubes, telemetry, ostomy bags and etc. Some skills that I’ve done are inserting IV’s, NG Tubes, and Foley catheters. I’ve had an experience with surgery patients and stroke patients as well. I worked on an acute stroke unit but we see many different things.

• Provided patient care and education to patients with chronic illnesses.
• Assessed, planned, implemented and evaluated nursing care for assigned patients.
• Administered medications and treatments according to physician orders.
• Monitored vital signs, administered injections, and provided assistance with medical procedures.
• Documented patient progress notes accurately and efficiently in the electronic medical record system.
• Collaborated with physicians, nurses, therapists, social workers and other healthcare professionals to develop individualized treatment plans for each patient.
• Instructed patients on proper self-care techniques at home following discharge from the hospital.
• Participated in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient care plans.
• Ensured compliance with standards of professional practice as well as state and federal regulations related to health care delivery services.
• Provided emotional support and comfort to families during difficult times.
• Counseled patients regarding medication side effects or lifestyle changes necessary for improved health outcomes.

• Assisted elderly clients with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing and grooming.
• Provided companionship for elderly clients by engaging in conversation and participating in recreational activities.
• Transported clients to doctor appointments and other errands using wheelchair accessible vehicles.
