Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for providing MANAGAGEMENT, SUPERVISION, and COORDINATION of day- to -day operations of law enforcement activities at Southeastern District, Baltimore Police Department, to coaching, motivating, and setting the bar for high ethical standards to ensure maximum employee performance. Advises and provides guidance to First Line Supervisors to ensure optimal productivity by establishing timelines to complete work effectively and efficiently, by monitoring daily staffing schedules, identifying staffing shortages, providing sufficient coverage, monitoring workload progression and continuously revising work schedules to meet changes in workload.
  • Demonstrates fairness when interacting with subordinates during the EVALUATING, COUNSELLING, and MOTIVATTING of personnel by conducting performance evaluations, reviewing performance standards with supervisors, monitoring performance continuously by providing regular feedback and mentorship. This includes managing patrol's response to violent in-progress calls for service, establishing appropriate course of action to protect life and property, responding and taking control as Incident Commander during serious incidents that require decisions to use a standard response or upgraded special response, documenting deficiencies, reporting misconduct, recording all non-punitive corrective actions taken, performing disciplinary action and/or corrective actions when necessary and contact Public Integrity Bureau for any law or policy violations.
  • Possess knowledge and adherence of organizational standards, consistent with law, to conduct investigations by ensuring that preliminary investigation of the incident is being handled appropriately by the following: protecting crime scene, collecting, and submitting evidence, conducting area canvas for witnesses and suspects, obtaining facts, affecting arrests, contacting detectives, and completing reports for any actions taken. Furthermore, to identify suspects and develop case information, management of follow up investigation activities such as secondary canvas for witnesses, assessing locations for CCTV cameras and surveillance cameras, recontacting complainant for additional information, and contacting appropriate investigating unit with leads. Expanded and broaden understanding of policing best practices by attending yearly in service training, completing online training thru Policy Management Software (Power DMS), and reading publications from Department of Justice and Maryland Police Correctional Training Commissions to provide advice and guidance.
