Artist Statement

As a textile artist and designer, my body of work combines sustainable textile artistry with consumer goods to explore non-traditional themes of Americana. My own brand, HOUSE OF SCOTT, represents and sells heritage consumer wearables, made intentionally with quality substrates, built to last. House of Scott's hero product, naturally dyed bandanas, are a play on the humble and commonplace handkerchief, now revitalized by utilizing the oldest textile printing technique, resist printing. My preferred materials include hemp blends and natural silks. I apply loose paint strokes of natural indigo, sumi Ink, or other natural dyes by hand, over my own resisted graphic designs. Using ancient techniques and dye stuffs, alongside modern tools, I aim to capture the lost essence and expression of forgotten worlds and artifacts, in league with centuries of nameless artisans before me.
