Project: Central Energy Plant and Utility Tunnels for Private Hospital

Project Description: To construct the new Central Energy Plant that will provide normal and emergency power,

steam, and chilled water to the new Nationwide Children’s Hospital campus. The project also involved a

loading dock expansion and construction of utility tunnels to get power from the CEP to the new hospital. The

CEP is certified with the USGBC as LEED NC 2.2. The project included construction of the 3 story building with

basement, (3) 2,250 ton chillers, (2) steam boilers totaling 4,600 steam HP, (3) 150 HP primary chilled water

pumps, (4) 250 HP condenser water pumps, (3) 20,000 CFM air handlers, (4) 20,000 gallon underground fuel

tanks, and (4) diesel generator sets.

Project: Emergency Deck Replacement for Bridge over L.I.R.R.

Project Description: The emergency replacement of a bridge deck over railroad tracks at the intersection of Metropolitan Avenue and Fresh Pond Road in Queens, New York. The original bridge was constructed in 1915 by the Long Island Rail Road and multiple overlays of asphalt and steel plates had been installed in the past as a means to remedy the deterioration of the bridge deck. The new ~$15M contract, labeled by the Executive Director of Community Affairs for the Department of Transportation Division of Bridges as “one of the toughest bridge projects” the area had in a very long time, including removal and replacement of the bridge deck and the approach slab, and steel framing repairs.
