Work History

Director

CHAAMP
06.2001 - 09.2013
  • Managed operations of a small breed-specific dog rescue group that began with $500 and 5 volunteers in a 3-state area.

  • Organized the group into 501c (3) non-profit status and expanded our reach to 5 states with 40 volunteers, and an operating budget of $55,000.

  • Guided the group into the internet, establishing a robust online presence by designing and maintaining a website, participating in listServs, authoring and designing both digital and printed newsletters, and later by adding a strong social media presence.

  • Consulted my board of directors for honest feedback and for guidance in operational strategy.

  • Maintained detailed databases of and kept in close contact with adopters, fosters, volunteers, shelters, and kennels to assure our ability to immediately respond to emergency situations, monitor the well being of our dogs, and to develop close relationships with adopters, volunteers and fosters.

  • Developed programs and processes for risk mitigation, scheduling home visits, assessing potential adopters, behavior assessment and health care history of each dog, scheduling dog transports, and proposal development for various events.

  • Conducted and designed adoption and community events to promote responsible pet ownership as well as place our rescued dogs into permanent homes.

  • Worked closely with volunteers to design and manage large fundraisers. Managed event logistics, operations, schedules and timelines. Coordinated volunteer activity for fundraising events.

  • Utilized social media and implemented publicity and advertising to promote fundraising and adoption events to increase attendance.

  • Optimized internal databases to prepare and distribute guest lists, invitations, registration processes, and collecting contact information on event attendees.

  • Developed post-event financial and other analysis to determine effectiveness of each fundraising event. Worked with my board of directors to examine event costs and logistics to identify areas of improvement and cost savings.

  • Leveraged networks and industry knowledge to develop and strengthen relationships with city, county, and state animal shelters over a 5-state area.

  • Maintained current knowledge of state and local industry regulations and legislation to amend policies and promote compliance.

Additional Information

I am a firm believer and practitioner of honest communication, asking questions, and listening carefully to the answers. I enjoy developing and enhancing genuine relationships with clients and volunteers so that everyone is satisfied with and enthusiastic about their role, I've learned that a successful director of anything learns the strengths of each volunteer (or other involved person) and relies on those strengths to effectively manage.
