My name is Lidia Habtetsion, and I am a first-generation college graduate. I hold a bachelor's degree in Child Development and Ethnic Studies from Mills College in Oakland, California. Additionally, I have a Master of Arts in African Studies from the University of Copenhagen in Denmark. I am a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society and received a Student Leadership Award from Mills College. During my time pursuing my Master's degree in Copenhagen, I had the opportunity to teach, and I fell in love with the experience. However, I recognized that my passion for teaching was rooted in my father's example. He administered an elementary school in the rural village where I was born during a time of significant social change. I have taught in various locations, including Copenhagen (Denmark), Cairo (Egypt), Ukiah, California, and Houston, Texas. After moving to Houston, I enrolled in the Texas Teachers Tomorrow program to obtain my teaching certification, which I plan to complete this summer.
