Re: Lindiwe Mabuya

From: Gretchen Wilson-Prangley, Founder and CEO, Play Africa

To whom it may concern:

I’m thrilled to provide this letter of recommendation for Lindiwe Mabuya, who worked at Play Africa in Johannesburg, South Africa, from 6 January 2020 to 30 November 2020. This was part of a skills development programme in partnership with Afrika Tikkun and YES!.

Play Africa (playafrica.org.za) is an interactive children’s play museum based at Constitution Hill. We bring children and families together through play and playful learning. As the first such cultural institution for early education in South Africa, Play Africa has worked with community partners across business, government, academia and civil society to advance children’s rights since 2013. We create hands-on STEAM experiences that support early childhood development (ECD) and foster creativity, innovation and problem-solving in children ages 0-10.

From the very first day, we loved working with Lindiwe. Her co-workers and I were impressed by:

Commitment – Lindi developed a reputation at Play Africa as someone who was commited to social justice. “She has demonstrated her passion for advocacy and that comes through in the work she has done at Play Africa.”

High-level roles – “One of her greatest strengths has been growing into high-level roles such as contributing to curriculum development, programme outlines and plans.”

Personal Growth – Lindi came to work with a can-do attitude, taking opportunities to learn along the way. She happily and easily slotted into our diverse team. “She really grew in facilitating dialogues with children.”

Lindi joined Play Africa to provide opportunities for children and families to discover new worlds, to wonder, to ask questions and to imagine a better future through interactive, hands-on exhibits, programming and play. Through her hard work, she invited children to try a range of new interactive learning exhibits while building new friendships and fostering deeper bonds with the adults who care about them. I recommend Lindi for any team. Please contact me should you have any questions or wish to know more about our experience working with Lindi.

Re: Lindiwe Mabuya

From: Mpho Tsele, Play and Learning Supervisor and Inclusion Coordinator, Play Africa

To whom it may concern:

Lindiwe has had quite a short year with us. I was only getting to know her before Lockdown, in March 2020. She was also only starting to get acquainted with the rest of the team. Lindi came highly recommended by Afrika Tikkun and I could see why when we had our last in-contact programme/ intervention at Poortjie. She thrust herself into a leadership role and facilitated brilliantly.

Even though we were physically distanced, I got to know Lindi better through our social interactions - sending messages of support, encouragement and discovering a shared love of gospel music and singing. I also discovered her passion for social justice and I believe she is already on the right path as a Law student.

Lindi has been actively supporting a few of the projects and she is growing in her role as a leader. With mentoring and support, I can see her as an Ambassador for Social Change.

Warm regards,

Mpho Tsele

Play and Learning Supervisor and Inclusion Coordinator, Play Africa
