My name is Lindsay but most people in my life would refer to me as Lin. I have been working in the Veterinary Field since 2020 where I started out working as a receptionist. Through that experience I was able to achieve a greater understanding of the veterinary world and all of its moving parts. From there I changed positions and began my assistant training in the hospital. I landed an amazing opportunity working in an all cat shelter on their medical staff where I ultimately ended up assisting with surgical procedures for shelter cats with our staff shelter veterinarian. I have been so fortunate to learn along side many people in which I both respect and admire and in that decided to purse licensure as a Veterinary Technician. I am actively enrolled in the Penn Foster Veterinary Technician program and remain hopeful to use both my knowledge and experience to help care for and change the lives of animals.
Job responsibilities are vast at this practice and it’s one of the things that has made it such a knowledgeable experience for me during my time as an employee at North Shore. It is our role to assist the doctor and prepare them accordingly for each appointment. Be it by reviewing records, preparing injections, deciphering medical records and expressing overall concerns from the client efficiently to the doctor. Properly restraining animals safely for medical procedures such as blood draws, x-ray’s, catheter placements and removals, vaccinations, subcutaneous fluids and etc are all things handled at typical day in the office. In addition- my role is to make sure the office is tidy, stocked and sanitized accordingly. Client communication is also essential in this role with a heavy focus on properly relaying information to clients.
As a member of the medical staff it is my responsibility to effectively address and treat varying medical conditions under the direction of our staff veterinarian. No day in a shelter looks like the day prior and in that experience I have learned a great deal in regard to medical needs and language. Day to day functions look like administering medications both orally and subcutaneously, de-worming patients accordingly, administering vaccinations, both drawing blood and urine for lab samples and effectively communicating with the lab when needed, efficiently keeping medical records and communicating information with adopters and foster parents.
I have also been fortunate enough to begin surgical assisting with our staff veterinarian early 2024. My job is to properly transport animals to our surgical suite and prepare all equipment and sanitization needed prior to surgery. It is my job while the doctor is operating to properly monitor the anesthesia monitoring machine and function accordingly based off of the staff veterinarians requests.
While working for VVC my main tasks were to assist the needs to the LVT’s as well as the staff veterinarian. Proper restraints, preparing lab samples, drawing up vaccinations and injections, client communication and trimming nails are all responsibilities that fell into my day to day hospital functions. On occasion I would also lend a hand to the reception staff to answer client inquiries and address their needs accordingly. I ultimately left this role when I moved back to my hometown in New York.
My job as a client care representative and assistant was to provide required reception tasks within a timely manner. My duties included, but were not limited to: answering phone calls and delegating client concerns and requests diligently, filling prescriptions as needed, as well as crisis intervention and client education. In addition to this I would assist with proper restrains and handling patients. I would also partake in proper stocking and sanitation when needed.
Each day working with Eola Pets I would be presented with a schedule of varying types of walks and pet sitting services that would need to be completed within a specific time frame. Either by commuting on foot or with my personal vehicle, I would travel accordingly to each clients home where I would perform various types of care requested by the pet parent. This company services many types of pets with varying temperaments and medical needs.
I transferred my title from the Wrightsville Beach, NC location to DeLand. My position as CSR entailed all client relations I.e booking appointments, answering general questions, processing prescription requests, filling prescriptions and processing payments. This facility was previously an emergency hospital and following its changing of hands still maintained and accommodated many of their established and emergent clients. Through this I learned a lot about an array of different medical issues as well as keeping organized in a high paced environment.
My tasks and responsibilities at this VCA location looked very similar to my responsibilities at the DeLand location. I had been made responsible for all opening and closing duties, cash handling, intake of patients, janitorial tasks and the dispensing of medications as well as client education and answering general inquiries.
While working for Whole Foods Market I had been fortunate enough to take on a number of roles. I had begun with the title of cashier but had quickly moved my way up to the customer service desk, where I was later granted the position of Store Support Integrator. A Store Support Integrator is essential responsible for handling and verifying
all tasks under the umbrella of marketing. When I wasn’t working with the marketing team I was up in the cash office where I handled banking and accounting needs.
During my time working for Trader Joe’s I had become responsible for varying tasks. Aside from cashiering, a crew member is also responsible for stocking and overall customer needs and interaction. After roughly two years of employment I had taken on the role of order writer. For the remainder of my time working for Trader Joe’s I wrote the Health and Beauty order where I was responsible for maintaining and ordering needs for my department. I was tasked with finding fun and innovative ways to properly market merchandise and display new products.
