Apollo Projects
I spearheaded a design campaign to match the artistic desires of both the Apollo development team and performing Artist. I was tasked with the responsibility of creating graphics that matched the electric energy of musician and singer, Seun Kuti, while honoring his late father and Nigerian legend, Fela Kuti. Africa Now was also a chance for the African community in Harlem to see themselves reflected in the Apollo brand. I achieved this through creating assets with vibrant colors, intricate patterns and hand drawn elements. Both print and digital assets were created to reach a variety of audiences, online and in person. This includes assets that range in size; social & web graphics, plasmas, rack cards and brochures.
With The Apollo theater hosting its first ever festival for creatives I had the exciting opportunity to design graphics that shed a light on fellow creative thinkers. For this festival our goal was to make something noticeably different from our typical season graphics. That allowed me to explore beyond the walls of brand guidelines while still including the iconic elements of our brand that audiences easily identify with the Apollo. Along with creating layouts for various assets, Photo editing was also a crucial part of the design process. That included integrating photos of the creatives featured in the festival on several graphic assets in unique ways that complimented the overall layout .
Outside of sales-oriented content, I also focus on creating brochures, rack cards, presentation templates, signage, invitations, and other branded assets. I supply other departments of the Apollo with evergreen designs to help establish and uphold brand standards. It's important that all content accurately reflects our guidelines, when representing the Apollo brand identity in internal and external spaces.
Freelance Work
While my freelancing process differs from my Apollo work I still apply the same skills to ensure satisfied clients. Rather than working with a development team, freelance work allows me to be in the design process with a client from the very start. This means from the ideation of a concept to its execution! This process typically includes but is not limited to, consultation chats, brainstorming sessions, live sketching and rounds of reviews dedicated to finding creative solutions to problems.
