Earning Teacher of the Year was a goal I set at the very beginning of my teaching career. In my 12th year of teaching, I was honored to receive this prestigious award—an even more meaningful recognition because it was voted on by my colleagues.

This milestone came during one of the most challenging periods in education—the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Teaching became an entirely new experience, with masks, shields, remote instruction, and social distancing redefining the classroom. That year wasn’t just about adapting; it was about reimagining how to connect, engage, and inspire under unprecedented circumstances.

Being named Teacher of the Year during such a time ignited in me a deeper purpose: to lead the way in restoring a sense of normalcy and joy in our classrooms. It strengthened my commitment to creating a learning environment where students could once again feel safe, connected, and excited to learn.
