My name is Lindsey Pickett. I am 21 years old. I grew up in a Clifton Park, New York. I went to Shenendehowa Central School District, with a graduating class of 800 students. Growing up, I was a dancer from the time I was 3 to the time I was 18, when I graduated high school. I danced for a totally of 15 years. I did jazz, modern, tap, ballet, and musical theater throughout the years. My favorite style of dance is jazz. While I am no longer in dance, I still find enjoyment in working out. I go to the gym every most days. In my free time when I am not working or going to school, I enjoy watching Netflix, listening to music, and hanging out with my friends or boyfriend. My dream is to be a teacher. Teaching has been my dream career since I was a little girl. The thought of decorating and managing my classroom has always been a dream. Teaching kids has become more important to me in recent years, though. My desire to support kids and show them that there is hope in dark times and that they have a safe place to go is my goal, and the desire to help goes beyond teaching math or English. I have a good amount of experience through many hours of field experience, volunteer work, and babysitting. I love working with kids. It never fails to amaze me the creativity and imagination children hold! My goal is to be a support system and friend to my students. Teaching is more than just an 8-4 job on weekdays. I want to strive to encourage students to succeed beyond just the classroom and teach them life skills that will stick with them for a lifetime.
I work part-time at Market 32 during school breaks such as summer and winter vacations. I help fulfill store orders that come through as well as restock anything customers don't want. I am also a cashier and help bag groceries and check people's ID's for alcohol as needed.
I worked part-time at the front desk in a doctor's office. I helped with computer documents and clerical work. I filed documents online and faxed documents to other doctors' offices. I also cleaned exam rooms between patients and helped the nurse by filling out patients' vitals during their appointment.
I volunteered in childcare at my church during one of the church services weekly or biweekly. I watched children and kept them entertained while their parents attended church service. I helped the Sunday school teacher set up the classroom, pass out snacks and water, read stories, play with the kids, and clean up.
I like to stay organized, work hard, and do my best when it comes to my work whether it is school, my job, or my home I consider myself very detail-oriented I make sure to always do a thorough job when it comes to cleaning up messes or satisfying customer needs I am polite to customers and always make sure to ask that they found everything they needed I am good with comforting people when they are anxious For example, if when a parent with child at the doctor's office was afraid of getting a shot, I was able to talk them through it and convince them to do it while staying calm
I have much experience working with children through my volunteering at Grace Fellowship, babysitting gigs, and field experience hours completed for my SUNY Oneonta courses thus far. I have a total of 45 hours in the classroom documented for field experience as of now, May 2024. I am a certified babysitter and have worked with kids since I was an early teen. The ages I have the most experience with between all my experience is 3rd and 4th graders, but so have some experience with little kids and 5th graders.
