Driven by a passion for community engagement and a knack for programming, I excelled at Mid Continent Public Library, leading events and enhancing literacy through innovative displays and tech education. My expertise in scheduling and empathetic communication significantly contributed to operational success, showcasing my ability to manage resources effectively and connect deeply with diverse audiences.
My primary focus at the library is programming, where I am responsible for scheduling, facilitating events, and ensuring the budget remains on track. Additionally, I lead a successful book group. I serve as the marketing liaison, ensuring that all promotional materials, including bookmarks and flyers, are current and relevant. I am also a member of the display team, tasked with creating thoughtfully curated displays.
Moreover, I have been cross-trained as a substitute for storytime, having conducted numerous sessions both as an assistant and independently. Engaging with children has been a significant aspect of my experience at the library, as they bring an immense amount of happiness to my day. One of my favorite events is the Stuffed Animal Sleepover, I find great joy in their reactions to seeing their bunny or dolly using the copier or checking out their favorite book. Prior to my role as a Programming Associate, I served as a Tech Associate. I possess a strong proficiency in essential library technologies, and my colleagues often seek my assistance in these areas. I have conducted numerous classes on Microsoft Word, Excel, eBooks, and various other computer skills. Jacqueline Reed requested my assistance in teaching a MALA class aimed at educating fellow library system employees on the use of OverDrive. At that time, I was the only participant not on the management team. I believe I contribute significantly to the daily operations of the library. I approach my interactions with kindness and respect, placing a high priority on privacy. Additionally, I listen with empathy and demonstrate a genuine interest in our customers needs.I
As an employee at the Grain Valley branch, my primary responsibilities included managing displays, overseeing the book group, and handling social media. I actively engaged in outreach efforts to local schools and a nearby nursing home, and I also facilitated a family book group, where we explored various titles and incorporated related craft activities. During my tenure, I was tasked with forging community connections to garner support for Proposition L. Additionally, I participated in a coffee chat with Steve Potter related to the levy.
In my role as the classroom lead, I was responsible for addressing the children's needs effectively. I planned monthly lessons and distributed a calendar to parents to keep them informed. I facilitated circle time, as well as music and art activities, employing a socialization model akin to Montessori principles. During my tenure, I participated in several workshops focused on child care to enhance my skills. Ultimately, my responsibilities evolved to include leading worship, planning and implementing storytime, and providing assistance to other classrooms as required. The director relied on me heavily.
