Specialization

  • I have a strong background in Pediatrics and Women’s Health. Before going back to school for my Masters degree, I enjoyed precepting new nurses and found helping others learn was something I wanted to do more of. By teaching the basic nursing assistant program at Illinois Central College, I found myself being well suited to the creativity that creating a learner centered environment requires. I found it exciting to encounter a diverse population of learners with different learning styles. In addition, I have taught CPR and PALS and helped develop a Pediatric Resuscitation program at Methodist Medical Center. I value the feedback received from those who attend classes and nurse educators who have provided me with feedback. I take evaluations seriously to help facilitate a learner centered environment.
  • I have a passion for community and service learning. I have worked as a RN in a Neurology Office setting, rounded with the Pediatric Neurologist in intensive care settings, pediatric nursing homes and did consult intakes in rural offices where pediatric patients were referred. As a RN at Valeska Hinton, the clinic was in a school however open to see patients of all ages. Many had barriers to health care, such as transportation.
  • In my current position as faculty for Methodist College, I facilitate clinical learning experiences for N3413 & N3414 as well as teach theory for N3413 and N2393G. Since beginning as full time faculty at Methodist, I have also taught N120, N232 clinical, N361 clinical and theory, and part of a semester clinical sims for N432 as well as 4 travel course experiences. I am involved on various committees within the college and continually try to find opportunities to enhance my growth as a faculty instructor.
