- During my time at Medic One, I worked as an EMT from February 1999 until February 2000, when I earned my Paramedic license. As a paramedic, I started out working in Lincoln Park on their rescue car. The company signed a contract with the city of Highland Park, and I was moved there. I grew as a paramedic in this setting. It was a fast-paced city with a range of calls, from simple BLS transfers to a nasty trauma, to a complicated medical run. I learned so much during that time. I not only learned about EMS and how to be a great paramedic, but I also learned about people. I learned how to talk to people, how to handle myself in an unsure situation, and that every person has their own story and set of circumstances that led them to meet me.
