My personal experience as a Surgical Technician has been so rewarding and fulfilling. I truly work in the position I was meant to. In addition to performing the role as a Surgical Technician I have been told that I am an excellent preceptor. I have had new graduates and students ask to be assigned to me because they feel they learn so much. I believe that instructing the student/new graduate the procedure, as well as "why" they are doing what they need to do is imperative so they can perform at the highest level they are able to in the future.
Additionally, have had the pleasure of boosting morale.
In this position I primarily scrub for spine (both orthopedic and neurologic), other neurologic (craniotomies), orthopedic (total joints and trauma), general, plastic, some vascular, hand, urologic (cystoscopies, ureteroscopies including use of laser) and ENT procedures.
I am also proficient in use of navigation (Brain Lab, Medtronic and Storz).
In this position I scrubbed for all of the above listed services.
I primarily scrubbed hand procedures, ACL reconstructions and shoulder/knee arthroscopies.
In this position I scrubbed in plastic procedures (including cosmetic and reconstructive), neurologic (spine and craniotomies), gynecologic, urologic, robotic procedures (gynecologic and urologic), and ENT (primarily ear and neck procedures).
