Motivated to assist individuals and families in re-building relationships, defining role within the family, strengthen parent child and spouse to spouse relations as they relate to re-unification.
I believe this is a necessary component, to addiction recovery, if an individual is going to be successful within their family. Most individuals have been away from their children (child), spouse, and other family members for a lengthen amount of time. A transition may take several weeks to months. However, with the proper support and assistance through curriculum/classes and specifically designed activities this transition may be reduced. The expected outcomes include a nurturing relationship where communication is open and trust is rebuilt. Allowing the parent to establish themselves as the head of household, disciplinarian and provider. The activities may be closely monitored within the rehabilitative setting and with class role plays.
As a recovering addict I understand the impact of an absent parent and the challenges one faces upon release from rehab, jail and prison.
If given the opportunity to work as a Peer Support Specialist I would do everything possible to assist the men and women with re-entering their homes and developing a relationship with their children (child), spouse and other family members.
