As a daughter of immigrant latino parents myself I understand the many complexities of a child's growth journey, and how critical support networks and programs can aid in enduring success. I have focused those beliefs into becoming an Accomplished Educator and Coach with a proven track record through organizations such as, First Five, Head Start and Encompass Community Services. These skills have enhanced teacher performance and student literacy through effective leadership and bilingual educational support. I also understand that programs alone are not sufficient, relationship building and utilizing observational tools are necessary to achieve significant improvements in instructional practices. I have applied all of these skills with an empathetic approach to fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills in under-resourced schools. Taking the last few years to focus on providing my own children with that same firm foundation, they now are leaders, thriving in their schools. It is exciting to again have the opportunity to apply my passion for supporting a new generation of programs and educators so that more children can experience the same path that I have been able to walk.
I have volunteered with children overseas between 2003 and 2008. Those places have included Uganda, different parts in Mexico, Philippines, Brazil, and India with organizations such as Cross Cultural Solutions, Assist International, and Bethany University. The last few years I have volunteered at my children's school, Rockwood Prep Academy, where assisted teachers with their diverse class. I have also volunteered with Refugee Care Collective, Faithful Friends Portland, and Cru in areas of mentoring.
