During this apprenticeship program, I am enrolled in courses at Madison College, in addition to being employed at UW Health under various departments.
Courses include basic mathematics, English, biological sciences, as well as core surgical technology courses towards the end of the program.
Department work includes OR Materials Management, where I put together supplies and pans needed for each of the operating rooms at both the main UW Hospital OR, as well as the children's hospital OR.
Also, gaining experience in SPD (sterile processing department). This allows me to learn and understand the process of each pan/instrument that would be needed in every surgery.
Final year of apprenticeship will consist of clinical rotations. Will travel to different locations within UW Health - such as clinics or hospitals.
Received specimens and carefully checked paperwork for accuracy and completeness. Contacted ordering source if any information is incomplete.
Monitored specimen identification using the laboratory’s specimen identification policies. Resolved problems and completed documentation as required.
Processed test requests with accompanying specimens and entered orders as required. Used established policies and procedures for specimen acceptability and would troubleshoot or clarify questions regarding specimen integrity.
Loaded specimens onto correct processors, such as fatty tissue or routine biopsies to be read by pathologists once processing was complete.
Responsible for the accurate and prompt processing of clinical specimens.
Included but not limited to specimens pertaining to heme (blood), chemistry and microbiology specimens
Received and processed specimens from Meriter hospital, satellite clinics, as well as UW Health.
Followed detailed procedures to purify, concentrate, and bulk fill drug substance.
Operated single use biomanufacturing processing skids, including but not limited to, chromatography and normal flow filtration.
Used basic biomanufacturing equipment such as tube fusers, tube sealers, pumps, balances, pH meters, biophotometers, mix tanks and other applicable manufacturing equipment.
Performed packing and unpacking of large-scale chromatography columns.
Trained new team members by relaying information on company procedures and safety requirements.
Operated register to process payments and collect cash payment for order totals.
Learned all required tasks quickly to maximize performance.
Worked different stations to provide optimal coverage and meet production goals.
Developed strong customer service and product knowledge skills to enhance individual and team performance.
(Note, the overlap in employment with some jobs during this timeframe is due to dual employment at Culver's with the other job).
Would assist Associates in solutions prep with gathering supplies needed to complete solution projects.
Calibrated pH meters, as well as other equipment for Associates prior to starting each shift.
Partook in completing simple solutions such as acids and buffers for Upstream, Downstream and the Flex teams.
