Major Marc Knarr, South Central Correctional Facility, 08/13/19, 255 West Hwy 32, Licking, MO, 65542, It is my pleasure to provide a recommendation letter for Lora "Alex" Goolie as she seeks to further her education and experience in the medical field. As her now Major and then Captain, I have had the pleasure of supervising this officer in a stressful and at times harsh environment. I have watched her grow from a rookie officer to a seasoned CERT member and CERT medic. Over the course of 5 years her command presence has grown and her unique ability to communicate well in stressful situations has set her apart from other officers. Within the public environment she is well spoken, calm, empathetic, and charismatic. Her ability to think during times of duress is a special quality that you cannot teach. She has a natural ability to manage time and paperwork which I have had her teach her unique skills to other officers. When we have prospective officers we place them with her because she has shown consistently that she is knowledgeable, a team player, proactive, and supportive. When the institution needed officers for overtime she was always at the top of the volunteer list. She exceeded the normal 40 hour work week to almost 60 plus hours for months without complaining. When asked why she worked so many hours she replied "The money is a good motivator but other people have kids. I'd rather them spend time with their children." She has shown constantly that she has given away her weekends selflessly to help the institution stay manned. Alex's strong sense of leadership which has been shown through her work with CERT and her job as a yard officer. Her influence and supervision over offenders and officers help to provide the institution with a more safer and structured environment. Her personality and presence will be sorely missed here. There are few competent, strong, and positive female influences here and she is one of them. I am confident in sending you our officer. She will exceed your expectations and set your bar of excellence higher.
