Create plans, in coordination with managers and engineers, to complete complex work safely and successfully
Estimate materials as well as estimating labor charges and completing cost estimates
Interpret and enforced safety regulations
Respond to emergency calls and operated the water system at an advanced, expert level
Work with Senior Water Pipe Workers to ensure the maintenance of tool inventories and equipment needed on the job; ensure tools are properly cared for
Plan and schedule multiple work crews and assignments simultaneously to completion and conduct necessary follow-up to ensure public safety, job quality, customer satisfaction and environmental controls are addressed
Mentore and coach employees and apprentices
Prepare and submit required work reports
Investigate and document incidents that may result in claims against the City or for which SPU may file claims against another entity.
Plan, schedule, and assign work to water pipe workers and apprentices
Responsible for the quality and safety of work performed at assigned work sites
Maintain and install all water system mains, services, hydrants, valves, fittings and metering devices, and locate underground utilities
Coordinate daily work with crew chiefs and other department staff members
Instruct subordinates on materials required and coordinate with equipment pool
Coordinate with other City departments for customer impacts, job site restoration, and permitting
Provide customer service to customers who are impacted by shutoffs
Train and direct the work of apprentices and other crew members
Prepare and submit routine and special reports
Respond to emergency calls and adhere to work standards and procedures
Record time sheets and document accuracy of information in Maximo and Data Splice.
Assist in job planning, preparation and follow through
Keep work crew truck in safe working order and stocked for most situations
Help teach and guide apprentices and new workers on crew
Ensure safety on the job site
Involved in proper traffic control setup and take down
Work out of class Water Pipe Senior when needed
Involved in construction, installation, operation and repair of water system
Performed work in all weather conditions
Worked around high voltage/high pressure gas and electric lines
Worked around heavy machinery, pneumatic and hydraulic tools
Spanish - speak, read, write
Over 3200 hours of OOC Crew Chief position
Proficient in Microsoft office, including Outlook, Word and Excel
Class B Tanker endorsement
