2018 Red Cross Hero’s of the Heartland

The reward was to honor the Fuel Up First program I started at East High School for the 2016/2017 school year and concluded in the 2018/2019 school year. Juvenile arrests were highest on Mondays at 10 am. We surmised hunger contributed; so set out to provide breakfast every Monday during the school year. Our goal was multi-layered: reduce hunger, lower crime, build relationships between the police and juveniles and the community and Juveniles. We served over 100 meals over 3 years. Crime did lower and relationships did develop.
