I am undergraduate student at the University of Maine working towards a bachelor degree in Animal Veterinary Sciences, with a focus in the pre-vet field. I graduated from a magnet school near the northern border of Maine and earned more than two semesters of college credit through concurrent enrollment. Although originally enrolled in college as a Biochemistry major, I eventually decided to pursue veterinary sciences . Due to a rigorous curriculum throughout high school and college, I have hundreds of hours of lab experience in several subjects. One subject where I have had notable success is in phage biology, where I discovered a novel bacteriophage through an enrichment isolation on bacterial host G. terrae. After isolating this phage I was able to characterize its properties and behaviors in many different ways. These include, but aren't exclusive to, gene structure and expression, DNA isolation, restriction digest analysis, agarose gel electrophoresis, and electron microscopy. With the results of various experiments, I wrote a scientific manuscript detailing these characterizations with a focus on the future applications of the aforementioned phage.
