Lucy Clevenger

Dynamic and accomplished piano performer with extensive experience as an evaluator for MTAC's Certificate of Merit program. A certified music teacher and trained adjudicator, I excel in providing constructive feedback and fostering student growth, combining my expertise in piano instruction with a passion for nurturing talent.

I became an MTAC TV member in August 2023 after I moved to Murrieta from Eugene, Oregon. From 2006 till 2023 I was an active member of OMTA (Oregon Music Teachers Association). My students participated in District and State Baroque, Ensemble, Sonata competitive festivals, advanced Master classes organized by University of Oregon music department, OMTA state conferences. My students were winners in Oregon State Baroque and Ensemble competitions, Bev Soule Scholarship in Eugene. Every year, starting in 2006, all my students took a syllabus exam, which is similar to California CM. I was a chair of Syllabus exams, Eugene District and State Baroque, Ensemble festivals, Eugene District recitals. In 2014 I was nationally certified and trained to become a piano adjudicator. I have 10 years experience in being mostly syllabus adjudicator, occasionally judging Baroque, Guild, Ensemble festivals.

I have learned a lot over the years about adjudications, which involved traveling to teachers’ studios, evaluating students’ technical skills, ear training, sight reading, and repertoire. It helped me to become a better teacher and gave me a perspective on how better prepare the students for the exam.

In 2023 I enrolled in Tholen Fellowship program, sponsored by Portland Piano International and dedicated to the development of piano teaching and teachers' performance in Oregon. This included six three-day-long sessions over a period of two years of private lessons with piano professors from various music schools, group sessions on pedagogical topics, performance classes. I received my Certificate of Completion in March 2025.
