As a Correctional Officer at the Wallace Unit I searched for contraband and provided security; counts, fed, and supervised offenders in housing, work, and other areas. Maintained security of various assigned areas involving long periods of sitting and standing, climbing stairs and ladders to reach the assigned areas, and working. As a Major for the James A. Lynaugh Unit I perform highly advanced supervisory and administrative work directing staff responsible for the care and custody of inmates. My work involves responsibility for the custody and discipline of inmates and for industrial, vocational, and agricultural work programs; and supervising through subordinate custody staff responsible for maintaining order and discipline. I work under minimal supervision with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

A. Oversees the direction of overall supervision of correctional officers and inmates; supervises, schedules, instructs, trains, and ensures the safety of assigned employees and inmates; and assists in formulating security and work procedures.

B. Supervises and directs searches for contraband; counts, feeds, and supervises inmates in housing, work, and other areas accessed by stairs, steps, and ladders; and performs security of various assigned areas involving long periods of sitting and standing, and climbing stairs, steps, and ladders to reach the assigned areas.

C. Supervises and provides custody and security of inmates including observing actions of inmates, squatting and bending to perform "pat" and “strip" searches of inmates, restraining and securing sometimes assaultive inmates, and transferring and transporting inmates by walking, driving, or riding in various vehicles such as trailers, vans, buses, and other forms of transportation.

D. Supervises and provides security of inmates performing technical skills such as construction, maintenance, laundry, food service, and in varied industrial and agricultural operations which involve climbing stairs, steps, and ladders and climbing around the inside and outside of buildings; works outdoors and indoors without air conditioning; works around motorized or moving equipment and machinery; and is subject to all types of weather.

As a Captain for the James A. Lynaugh unit I performed advanced supervisory work in the care and custody of inmates. Work involved directing the activities of assigned staff engaged in maintaining order and discipline. Worked under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent. Would over see all buildings to insure they where clean and the integrity of the structure was not compromised.

As a Lieutenant at the James A. Lynaugh Unit I would function as shift supervisor; supervised, instructed, trained, and ensures the safety of assigned employees and inmates; scheduled employees and inmates work and off-duty time; and assisted in formulating security and work procedures. Supervised and directed searches for contraband and provided security; counts, feeds, and supervised inmates in housing, work, and other areas accessed by stairs, steps, and ladders; and performed security of various assigned areas involving long periods of sitting and standing, and climbing stairs, steps, and ladders to reach the assigned areas.

As a K9 Officer for the Rogelio State Jail I would supervise the narcotic/contraband dog program, assists, trained and ensures the safety of assigned employees and inmates. Supervised the canine breeding program; maintains care and custody of, and adherence to rules and regulations by inmates assigned to kennel duties. Provided for the care, training, and use of narcotic/contraband canines; scheduled employees’ and inmates’ work and off-duty time; and assists in formulating security and work procedures. Responded to emergencies searching for escaped inmates, hearing calls for and calling for help, giving first aid at the emergency site, carrying an injured or unconscious inmate or employee various distances to safety up or down and uses forced if needed.
