Antepartum:

  • triage high risk and routine obstetric patients; asses maternal-fetal well-being and perform comprehensive nursing evaluations.
  • initiate and manage IV therapy, administer prenatal medications including magnesium sulfate, corticosteriods, and antibiotics
  • monitor fetal heart rate patterns and uterine activity using electronic fetal monitoring systems (external and internal)
  • Collaborate with OB providers to stabilize and manage patients with complications such as preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, or preterm labor

Labor and delivery:

  • Provide continuous, evidence-based labor support and interventions to patients during all stages of labor.

Assist in vaginal deliveries, emergent cesarean sections, and operative births, including sterile instrument setup and patient preparation.
•Administer Pitocin, epidural boluses, and manage anesthesia support coordination for surgical deliveries.
• Respond to obstetric emergencies, including cord prolapse, shoulder dystocia, and fetal bradycardia, initiating emergency protocols when needed.
Postpartum and Newborn Care:

• Conduct routine postpartum assessments, including fundal checks, lochia evaluation, pain control, and emotional well-being monitoring.
•Educate patients on breastfeeding initiation, newborn care, and signs of maternal complications (PPH, infection, depression).
•Perform immediate newborn care, Apgar scoring, thermoregulation, and medication administration (Vitamin K, erythromycin, Hep B).
