I've had the opportunity to work in retail and food service for about three years, spending time at a fast food restaurant, a bar and grill, and a hardware store. I really enjoyed interacting with people, being part of a team, and the flexibility in scheduling. However, there were definitely some downsides, like poor management and the lack of coverage when I needed time off for personal or sick days. Eventually, I decided to switch gears and entered the healthcare field as a CNA. I worked in an assisted living setting for around two years, and I truly loved the experience. Being able to connect with residents and care for them was incredibly fulfilling. During that time, I was promoted to Staff Coach, where I trained new employees and helped show them how to care for more in-need residents. Later on, I stepped into an interim NOC Shift Lead role. After about four months on NOCs (overnight), I returned to the PM shift and was promoted to PM Shift Lead. During my time in both positions, I encountered multiple medical emergencies, including strokes, seizures, and unresponsive residents, which gave me a lot of experience in high-pressure situations. I eventually stepped away to focus on college, but those experiences will always stay with me. Recently, I moved to Appleton and joined the Fox Valley Tech Security Team in late June. While I haven’t been in the role long, I took it because I’m looking for a position that aligns with my Criminal Justice studies and will help me build toward my future career.
