I began volunteering in 2016 at Central terrace UMC along with Pastor Dave DiMarco and Billie Corn distributing food that we received from 2nd Harvest Food Bank. we would gather, then separate food items to be given out at our weekly food pantry. This led to us feeding on the lawn and Central Terrace, and later we would feed in several locations that struggle with food insecurities. Our organization would collaborate with Anthony's Plot and Trinity Moravian Church which is in the same neighborhood.
I would prepare meals for both locations on Sunday or at our neighborhood meals at Anthony's Plot. for the last few years I have read books or taught classes at the Freedom School located at Anthony's Plot. I recently became the assistant manager of the community center located at Central Terrace UMC, which is an extension of Anthony's Plot and Trinity Moravian.
During the last two years I became involved with Our Opportunity 2 Love + Heal Coalition to help eradicate gun violence in Winston Salem, with our main focus being East Winston and the Southside of the city. I also volunteer With Moms Demand Action, and attended Gun Sense University in Washington, D.C. where I was chosen to meet President Joe Biden with around 75 other colleagues out of 700.
Our organization is all female and we collaborate with other NFP's in the city through several types of healing events such as yoga, reiki training., and healing circles. we often have a fellowship meal in community or support families that need assistance with food or clothing after the loss of a loved one or such tragedies as a house fire.
