Provide nursing care to terminally ill patients on a 13 inpatient unit
Manage critically ill patients by administering IV medications via IV's ports, PICC lines, and midlines, starting IV's with Clysis, suctioning profound tracheal congestion and oral secretions, managing patients with tracheotomy, performing tracheotomy cares, catheterization, wound cares, g-tubes/feedings, managing bipap/cpap to patients along with respiratory therapist's
Collaborate with physicians to quickly assess patients and deliver appropriate treatment while managing rapidly changing conditions during the dying process.
Educate patients, families and caregivers on diagnosis and prognosis, disease process and management at the end of life.
Train new nurses in proper techniques, care standards, operational procedures and safety protocols.
Update the interdisciplinary team which includes medical director, attending physician, social worker and chaplain to meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the patients/families
Support the emotional needs of families by providing active listening and support; as they are going through anticipatory grief and at at times family conflict may they arise
