OWNER/Manager

10 Years
Pinch-A-Penny Pool, Patio and Spa | 01.2014 - 01.2024
  • Opened two locations, with zero sales and no brand recognition in the area. Recognized repeatedly for new store growth with consistent increases of 40-50 percent for the first two years. Gross sales were at $3 million when these locations sold in 2021.
  • In 2022, purchased an underperforming location. Within two years increased store offerings and sales by over $400,000 and sold that location in 2024.
  • Achievement: Store was considered an essential business during start of COVID instability in 2020. Retained all employees by implementing store policies to support/address a variety of concerns and needs during an uncertain time.
  • Hired, trained and managed a team of up to 18 employees.
  • Developed weekly and biweekly schedules factoring in the payroll budget and employees' diverse availability, skills, and pay rates.
  • Organized and led employee meetings as well as in-store 'pool schools' for 30+ customers, teaching the basics of pool care and enhancing customer engagement.
  • Project management experience in opening two of these locations. This involved applying for appropriate licensing, approving store front locations, hiring employees, initial inventory orders, budget planning, building supplier relationships and planning local marketing efforts.
  • Addressed customer complaints with appropriate apologies and solutions. Recognized team conflicts and managed resolutions through inquiry and collaboration.
  • Adapted to changes such as employee availability, COVID guidelines, supplier pricing increases, and updated operational policies from franchisor, ensuring smooth store operations.
  • Responsible for handling customer complaints, offering apologies and/or solutions, whichever conversation warranted. Recognized if there was any conflict among team and would handle by asking questions and seeking agreeable solutions.
  • Analyzed financial statements to provide actionable insights
  • Led audit preparations, coordinating with external auditors to ensure compliance and accuracy.
  • Led by example and offered a caring and flexible workspace. Was able to retain most employees for a minimum of two-three years. Offered many college students opportunities to work around their schedules, and it was rewarding to watch them grow both professionally and in life.
  • Ability to problem solve. Running a successful small business is basically constant problem solving. Example: an order didn’t show up from a supplier- can we find a substitute part? My payroll budget is tight this week- how do I maximize coverage based off employee skill set?
  • As owner/operator of a retail store that also offered service calls, organization was essential. Quick info-tracking was a must when a customer would call or come into the store with questions.
