Inpatient Pharmacy Technician

Inpatient Pharmacy Technician operations at IU Health Inpatient Hospital includes the following; providing support to hospital pharmacists to assist, prepare and distribute medications to patients. The following duties include receiving medication orders, measuring medication quantities, counting tablets, creating compounded medication, and keeping the working area clean and organized.

  • Unit Dose/Phone Technician: answers phone calls and directs accordingly; assisting nurse/doctor on line if applicable. Prepares all STAT medications that are at unit dose station. Runs necessary reports daily for CRRT bags to ensure that the proper amount of stock is in the main pharmacy ready for delivery. Receives hourly report of new start medications that are not currently loaded into the Pyxis machines; assigns and loads new start medications into the correct unit accordingly. If the new start medication is not available in warehouse a report is ran hospital wide to locate the medication, report given to delivery technicians to pull and load into correct machine. If the new start medication is not available in warehouse or hospital wide; a report is ran to see if sister hospital has the medication and a request for transfer of inventory is submitted and tubed to unit dose counter.
  • Delivery Technician: Prioritizes delivery route based off of medication expiration and/or time medication is due. Delivers prepared medication to the floor for distribution by the floor staff. Loads medications into Pyxis machine in each medication room. Delivers medications that require signature from nursing staff such as chemo and narcotics.
  • IV Room Technician: follows and complies with all current aseptic guidelines per USP 797. Compounds all IV drips and IV piggybacks for the hospital. Prioritizes each medication based off medication type and time due.

Medical Case Manager

Medically managed multiple deploying units and individual soldiers as they prepared for mobilization outside the State of Indiana from the Indiana Army National Guard (INARNG). Conducted clinical assessments with Service Members for an initial Level 1 SRP (Soldier Readiness Processing). Ensured that each Soldier is medically ready to deploy to Area of Responsibility (AOR) and per AOR specific Army Regulations and guidelines; including Mobilization Site specific requirements. Acted as liaison and communicated with each units’ Medical Readiness Non-Commissioned Officer (MRNCO) daily after the initial Level 1 SRP. Worked alongside INARNG J3 Mobilization Team as a Medical Representative. Traveled with INARNG J3 Mobilization Team to attend units’ Level 2 SRP at Mobilization Site to ensure medical support throughout the entire process.

  • Maintained continued educational training on all Army Medical Systems to include: MODS, MedPros, MWDE, Medical Health Assessments (MHA), Medical Health Care Portal, Commander Portal, Admin Portal, Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System (DOEHRS), Armed Forces health Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA).
  • Familiar with the regulations and policies that apply to Individual Medical Readiness (IMR) and deployment specific, to include the Army Regulation (AR) 40-501 Standards of Medical Fitness, AR 40-502 Medical Readiness Procedures, USCENTCOM MOD15, AR 500-5 Army Mobilization and Deployment Reference (AMDR), AR 40-66 Medical Record Administration and healthcare Documentation, PPG, and PPG-Tab A.
  • Briefed USCENTCOM MOD13 Medical Requirements for deployment, to units one month prior to initial Level 1 SRP.
  • Responsible for identifying and tracking medical status of ALL Soldiers assigned to deploying unit via the FTN MARRS-N.
  • Liaison with INARNG Medical Provider for: review of medical documentation, request of temporary and/or permanent profile if applicable. Ensuring that medical documents include required information and formatting prior to sending them to the provider.
  • Requests profile exams/evaluations, audiology exams, behavioral health evaluations, individual appointments, etc. at Physical Exam Center (PEC) via the Clinic Coordinator.
