Hello, I will graduate from Oklahoma State University in May of 2027 with an Animal Science/Pre-Vet degree. I have a strong background in agriculture, livestock, and veterinary medicine. I grew up on a cattle ranch, so working with animals has always been a big part of my life and has played a major role in my decision to become a veterinarian. I have gained hands-on experience in both mixed-animal and equine veterinary settings, where I have assisted with treatments, surgeries, emergencies, hospitalized patients, and daily animal care. Those experiences have deepened my interest in large-animal medicine and shown me how important veterinarians are to the producers, owners, and communities they serve. I am also a former college athlete, and basketball taught me discipline, leadership, teamwork, and how to keep pushing when things get difficult. I have carried that same mindset into school, work, and veterinary medicine. I like to stay busy, work hard, ask questions, and understand why things are done instead of just going through the motions. My long-term goal is to become a large-animal veterinarian and return to a rural community where I can build strong relationships with clients and be someone they know they can depend on.

- So far, during my internship and time at Oakridge Equine Hospital, I have gained a lot of experience assisting veterinarians with appointments, treatments, procedures, surgeries, hospitalized patients, and emergency cases. Some of my goals during my internship are to better understand commonly used medications and how they are used in different cases. In addition, I want to learn more about radiology, including proper positioning, X-ray directionality, obtaining quality images, and reviewing radiographs to better identify abnormalities and make diagnoses. This internship has improved and will continue to improve my clinical skills and my understanding of these two goals.

- I assist veterinarians with appointments, surgical procedures, treatments, and inpatient hospital care. I also maintain medical records and communicate with clients and doctors when needed. I help prepare for and assist during surgeries, clean exam rooms, sterilize and stock equipment, and ensure everything is ready for use. I am also on call for emergency surgeries once a week and two weekends a month. This has better prepared me for the reality of being a veterinarian.

- While shadowing Dr. Burba, I observed procedures and spent significant time watching lameness evaluations using the Lameness Locator as part of his research. During slower parts of the day, we reviewed previous radiographs, which helped me learn to identify abnormalities and make a diagnosis. I was very saddened by Dr. Burba's passing in March over spring break; that said, I had planned to shadow him for the remainder of the semester.

- I groomed and cared for performance and show cattle. My duties included feeding, washing, brushing, cleaning pens, and preparing cattle for the Big Event in August. I also assisted at the Embryo Transfer Center a handful of times, flushing embryos, evaluating them, and transferring them. I also helped preg check a handful of pastures, where I learned how to block tails in the alley with lidocaine to help speed up the process for the vet.
