Summary

Growing up I always wanted to make others happy. I am the type to put peoples needs before my own.. it's a blessing and a curse. When I joined this class and had to pick a topic, I knew I wanted to help those in need. I was between Zero Hunger and Quality Education. I chose Zero Hunger, as I was able to work locally with an organization that makes sure people don't go hungry. This was very rewarding because I was able to give back to my community and see how much of a difference I was making. For what's next in my civic engagement journey, I plan to continue to volunteer at Feed Thy Neighbor, as I've made a connection with the ladies in the kitchen and branch out to other non-profits in the area.

  • Flexible Schedule
  • Attention to Detail

Accomplishments

  • During my time volunteering for Feed Thy Neighbor, I was able to collaborate and work as a team with five other individuals. We created various different projects throughout the semester, but the one that stands out is our film. Although we split into two groups of three, all six of us contributed to the group/film in our own ways and were able to reach more people in need, as the other three volunteered elsewhere.
  • I learned the importance of giving. I did not expect anything in return, but I did get something anyways; knowledge and compassion.
  • I was able to donate to the kitchen in order to ensure that they have the funds to cook meals.
