Extracurricular Courses:
Animal Science/Introduction (Fresno State): This is an introduction course that focuses on the agricultural studies and animal life that is present on the campus. In it, I learned about the basic every-day life of the animals, the needs of the farmers, California laws made specific for the career, and the factories of the Rosa Brothers Farm. I learned about the early life of pigs, goats, horses, and cows, and took part in some of the activities having to do with feeding, castrating, and deworming the animals. Alongside, I experienced the process of what it is like to be a professional food taste-tester. I also was taught how to make salami with the right percentages of different meats, all the way down to just the right spices mixed together for the perfect taste. With this opportunity, I made salami on my own in the Fresno State factory. I visited and toured the dairy factories of Fresno State and learned the exact processes that go into making the diverse milk and ice cream flavors of their brand. I also visited the Fresno State Organic Shop in Campus Pointe. There, I learned what it was like to work at the back of the shop with packaging food, labeling items in bulk, and how to create marketable items appealing to customers.
Recreation Nation: This is a course that gave me the opportunity to better my athletic talents by providing a gym with various options of sports to do. Badminton, basketball, ping-pong, weightlifting, track running, volleyball, tennis, etc. I specifically focused on practicing my skills at badminton, tennis, volleyball and basketball. Chess Strategy: I learned various techniques and strategy of the game chess. In it, I learned plays and was encouraged to play against my other classmates so that we all could improve our skills.
Ballroom Dancing: I learned bronze-medal earning dances such as fox trot, tango, swing, and the cha-cha. Although it is mainly geared for bronze-medal moves, it advances towards silver-medal and even gold-medal dance moves throughout the course. Mock Trial: In mock trial, I was given a case and a side’s position to defend. Through it, I learned the skills of analyzing a situation as a whole, as well as analyzing details thoroughly and the way that it could affect a situation. I also learned the way of the courtroom and became familiar with certain case laws.
Life Skills: I was taught important and necessary values and lessons for working towards becoming an adult. Whether it is as simple as how to do laundry, or the core essentials to running a household, it lets students like me learn to be ahead of the game and what to expect in upcoming adulthood. I also learned the basic ideas in understanding how the banking systems work and how to earn and maintain good credit.
SAT/ACT Workshop: I was taught large amounts of preparation modules and courses for the SAT and ACT test. Within two weeks, I completed over 1000+ work problems that helped me prepare for my upcoming SAT.
Fitness Boot Camp: In this class, I was active in high fitness and was exposed to many forms of working out. Not only did I learn the many various components in enjoying an effective workout, but I also learned strong discipline and strengthened my mindset to keep pushing even when it is quite difficult.
Speech and Debate: In Speech and Debate, I took part in the parliament debate. Here, I was given a topic to research and either affirm or negate within only 20 minutes. After, I would debate another team with the information I could find within the given amount of time I had. Although I was a beginner, I beat 3⁄4 teams against me. I started this at the end of the year, and as a novice against experienced debaters, I made it halfway to the varsity team within only one tournament.
