I love the outdoors, it is a relaxing spending time up on the lake by our cabin; hearing the nature around the area and the peacefulness of the area. It is a more quiet lake, and when kayaking, canoeing or fishing, it helps me gather relax, and gather my thoughts. This is a good way of reflecting and examining my thoughts.
Crocheting is another way of relaxing for me. I make simple blankets to embroidering on the blankets. I can sit and watch my favorite shows, all the while crocheting. I will also enjoy sewing on the side, working on making pants, curtains, and blankets.
Softball has been my favorite sport for many of years. I have organized teams then going back to being a player on the team. It is a good team sport to play, working together and not worrying about the mistakes that are made on the field; trying to be encouraging the participation rather than the mistakes. I have been on winning teams and losing teams, but I prefer teams that are just in the middle, where it is about just playing together. Other sports I have done in the past is participating in the 5 Ks and golf, though I am not that great at golf. I feel it is important to just keep moving and staying active.
I feel we need to get better at decreasing the achievement gaps that are prevalent in our society. Through looking at my biases and being open to recognizing them, along with looking at how they affect the students is an import step in decreasing the gap.
We need to look at different ways of teaching the students to encourage the greatest potential for students. I thoroughly enjoy working with students, which is one of my many contributions, though I feel students do give back with their successes and connections that are made through the school year. The more the students are able to feel good about their successes, some small, some big, the better chances they have after graduations. I also feel it is important to recognize our students, especially in special education, and include the students as much as they can participate in life. I feel that by teaching I can be an positive influence on students lives.
