I graduated from Harwick College Cum Laude with designated honors. I earned a B.A. in Sociology and a dual certification in childhood education and special education. Teaching has always been my passion. I would like to make a difference through inclusivity and creating a classroom environment that promotes a love for learning. I would consider myself a highly motivated person. I enjoy working with children of all ages and abilities.
This past summer and the summer of 2021 I worked as a Camp Counselor gaining experience in directing camp activities and helping school-aged children develop confidence and achieve life goals. I am skilled at planning, executing and supervising activities including academics, arts, sports and field trips. I have strong interpersonal communication skills that encourage fellowship and fun while sustaining camp mission statements.
As a sophomore at Hartwick College, I did a teaching practicum for my January term in a self contained second grade classroom. Most of the students had home life challenges and learning issues. This was difficult for me as my first exposure to teaching. However, I learned that a teacher can be a light in a student's day and can create a warm and welcoming classroom that a positive learning atmosphere.
Last year, May 2022 I was able to participate in Hartwick College's student teaching program. The first session was in a 4th grade classroom teaching science and math. I taught in a 1st and 5th grade resource room for my second placement. I learned to approach each day and its unique challenges with enthusiasm, patience and humor. I work hard to promote inclusive classrooms where children of all abilities work together as a team. Children of different talents and abilities can learn so much from each other as long as respect and kindness are promoted.
In August 2022 I began working as the sixth grade special education teacher at Cherry Valley Springfield School. This is a low income rural school. I have found this job to be very rewarding as well as challenging. I work with student's with behavioral needs along with academic needs. I am currently in my Masters program online at SUNY Oneonta, in the Literacy Program.
During the summer of 2023 I worked as a server at the country club in Cooperstown NY. I worked mostly dinner service and occasionally brunch and parties at the country club.
In August 2023, I moved to Camillus NY where I began my job as a 4th grade special education teacher in Auburn NY at Owasco Elementary School. This is my current work at the moment.
