Mallory Martin

Compassionate and resilient ICU nurse with nearly 3 years experience in an adult Neuro ICU and a Pediatric ICU, as well as completion of a Critical Care Fellowship through UCHealth. Additional experience with years of direct patient care in hospital, home care, and long-term care settings and with diverse patient populations from pediatrics to geriatrics. Leadership experience from various volunteer experiences domestically and internationally, including a year spent in Haiti. Excited to continue advancing nursing career!

• DAWN Clinic, Care Coordination – January 2018 to July 2018. Providing patient care continuity at a free student-run clinic in Aurora, CO. This position involves scheduling patient appointments, charting, insurance screenings, reminder phone calls, and interpersonal communication when working with patients who don’t have health care, many of whom are foreigners.
• Children’s Hospital – October 2014 to February 2016. Using play to facilitate healing for children who have cancer or blood disorders.
• Sacred Heart House Denver – August 2015 to May 2020. Once a month a few other pre-med students and I lead a discussion with the women staying at this shelter. We discuss general wellness and stress management as well as any other health topics they might like to talk about.
• English 4 Kids Day Camp – St. Marc’s Reformed Church, Quebec City, Quebec, Canada – June 2018. Planned games and activities for children ages 5-12 as well as chaperoned for 55 French-speaking children.
• Real Hope for Haiti – August 2013 to May 2014. Lived at a medical clinic in Haiti, and worked as the school teacher to four missionary children. Also spent time observing how the clinic was run, and playing with the children who were in-patients.
• Haiti Volunteer Trip – August 2010 and 2012. Supported missionary family and visited orphanages to assist with feeding programs post earthquake. Worked at Three Angel’s Children’s Relief in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Spent time caring for and playing with orphaned babies and painting recently rebuilt school classrooms.
  

St. Luke Foundation for Haiti October 2018 to February 2019

• In-country communication internship. Duties included updating Squarespace website, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, as well as formatting brochures and an annual report. Other activities included covering foundation events, writing blog posts, and teaching English.

Kaiser Permanente Summer 2017

• Paid internship in gastroenterology department at Rock Creek location in Lafayette, CO. Spent the summer working on several research projects which mainly included calling patients post-procedure and collecting survey data, as well as help prepare beds in the recovery are, stock supplies, track procedure times, and data entry. I also had opportunities to shadow healthcare providers in other Kaiser departments.

Undergraduate Pre-Health Program (UPP) 2016/2017 Cohort

• 13-month undergraduate program focusing on mentorship, professionalism, and navigating future health programs.

MedAdvance 2015 Cohort

• Interned for Scientific Education and Research Institute in Thornton, CO. Helped teach anatomy courses for high school students, shadowed in the anatomy lab and participated in dissections. Collaborated with fellow interns on several projects including a math and science camp for middle school students on Pine Ridge Reservation in Kyle, SD, a Spooky Science event in partnership with the organization Stepping Stones, and providing wellness training at a women's shelter in downtown Denver.
