Registered Nurse – Pediatric Medical-Surgical Unit

• Deliver comprehensive nursing care to pediatric patients across a wide age range, from newborns to adolescents, within a high-acuity medical-surgical unit.
• Manage diverse medical conditions including respiratory illnesses, post-operative care, infectious diseases, and chronic pediatric diagnoses.

  Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)– delivered care to feeder-growers and assisted in providing care times

• Delivered critical care to trauma patients, including those involved in motor vehicle accidents (MVAs), gunshot wounds, and other high-impact injuries, ensuring effective stabilization and management in a Level I trauma center.
• Assessed and monitored patients with complex musculoskeletal trauma, including fractures, dislocations, and spinal injuries, providing timely interventions to prevent complications such as shock, bleeding, and infection.
• Provided post-operative care to patients recovering from orthopedic surgeries, including total joint replacements (hip, knee, shoulder), managing pain, wound care, and rehabilitation.
• Assisted with managing multi-system trauma cases, collaborating with trauma surgeons, orthopedic specialists, anesthesiologists, and physical therapists to create comprehensive, individualized care plans.
• Administered pain medications, including narcotics and NSAIDs, and performed thorough assessments to adjust pain management protocols to ensure optimal comfort and recovery.
• Implemented infection control procedures and wound care protocols to promote healing and prevent post-operative complications.
• Educated patients and families on surgical procedures, rehabilitation expectations, and pain management strategies, ensuring they understood their recovery process and long-term care needs.

Involvement in Skin Committee:

• Participated in monthly Skin Committee meetings, where we assessed the skin integrity of all patients on the unit, focusing on pressure points such as the sacrum, elbows, heels, and behind the ears to prevent skin breakdown and pressure injuries.
• Collaborated with the wound care team to identify at-risk patients and implement preventive measures for moisture-associated skin damage and pressure ulcers.
• Ensured adherence to best practices in skin care protocols, including repositioning schedules, use of pressure-relieving devices, and proper moisture management.
• Contributed to improving patient outcomes by helping reduce the incidence of pressure injuries in the unit, particularly in high-risk orthopedic trauma and post-surgical populations.
