Duties are to observe and report any illegal activity along the Rio Grande River throughout the RGV sector.
Assisting and working alongside Border Patrol, DPS, Texas game wardens and local law enforcement agencies.
Driving Texas Military Department truck units roving around the given RGV sector zone of operation or a observatory position in a military tactical vehicle.
Following Border Patrol agents and Texas State peace officers’ orders to detain and apprehend illegal aliens.
Operations included brush/outdoor terrain foot chases, gathering large Illegal Alien family groups, and spotting /reporting any illegal alien activity or human smuggling.
Duty hours consisted of having 40+ hour weeks with 8–12-hour shifts, and annual rotations every 3-6 months between swings, nights, and morning shift.
Daily uniform included U.S. Army combat uniform, plate carrier with plates, Kevlar helmet, hydration system, m4 rifle or m17 pistol.
Equipment included handheld night vision goggles, thermal observatory systems, ammunition filled rifle or pistol magazines, binoculars, U.S customs and border patrol issued radio, Texas military department issued radio, and Texas Military Department truck units or military tactical vehicles.
Prior shift guard mount meeting and equipment/uniform checks.
Quarterly training consisting of Texas/Federal Legal rules of force, Information Security, antiterrorism, cybersecurity awareness, and swift water certificates.
Encountering different national groups/people.
Encountering and handling Hazardous gang related members from Mexico and criminals from various nationalities.
Civil disturbance training including riot control equipment shields, batons, and face shields.
Deploying civil disturbance control capabilities.
