Director and Creator

Santa Fe Research Institute
01.1985 - 12.2000

Santa Fe Research - an independent research program for children and youth.

  • I developed Santa Fe Research in the early 1980s to investigate the creative processes that drive curiosity and learning in children, especially those with learning perception difficulties. My organization was dedicated to the investigation of learning and potential in children, and examined the ways in which children diagnosed with 'learning disabilities' could reach their unique potentials. This work has been cross-culturally informed and supported by private grants and fellowships, with research in Zimbabwe and Mali, Africa, on the cultures of 'childhoods.
  • The organization and its research covered a fifteen-year period.
  • I designed unique learning tools that focused on developing the physical senses.
  • The materials I designed covered a broad range of disciplines and interests: Science, Music, Art, Mathematics, Reading, Writing, Poetry, Design, and innovative experiments with a focus on attention, perception, and critical thinking.
  • The work with Santa Fe Research inspired me to earn my Master of Arts and Ph.D. in Cultural Anthropology (ethnography), working with street and working children, human rights, and identity in Brazil.
