Brazilian conductor Marcos Rangel is a doctoral student in orchestral conducting at the University of Houston. He previously was an assistant conductor at Núcleos Estaduais de Orquestras Juvenis e Infantis da Bahia (NEOJIBA), a program similar to El Sistema in Brazil, where he prepared the orchestra for their 2022 international tour that included the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the Philharmonie in Paris with pianist Maria João Pires and the 2023 national tour through the Northeast and North of Brazil with violinist Midori. The Los Angeles International Conductors Competition in Argentina named him a finalist and placed fourth out of forty competitors in 2024. Marcos has worked with influential conductors like Harold Farberman at the Bard College Conservatory of Music and Laurent Gay at the Haute École de Musique de Genève. In Brazil, his conducting studies included Ricardo Rocha, Ligia Amadio, André Cardoso, Isaac Karabtchevsky, and Abel Rocha. As an educator, Marcos has worked many years with musicians of various levels and backgrounds, encouraged collective music experiences, and promoted Brazilian symphonic music. He holds a master's degree in music from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro-Brazil and currently studies with Franz Anton Krager at the University of Houston.

● 2018: Guest conductor of the King School of Music in the USA to form the Regional Orchestra of El Sistema USA.
● 2017: Conductor of the Children's Orchestra of State of Bahia within the celebrations of the 10 years of the NEOJIBA program. Responsible for preparing 100 children and teenagers between 8 and 15 years old from all over the state of Bahia, involving more than 30 cities, preparing for 15 days, repertoire for 4 concerts in the celebrations of the program.
● 2014: Guest conductor of the Acarigua-Araure Orchestra, of the El Sistema de Venezuela Nucleus in the city.
