After three years working as a family physician in Cuba, I gained diverse and enriching experience that encompassed multiple facets of medicine and community care.
1. Primary and Continuous Care: I had the opportunity to treat patients with a wide variety of medical conditions. My role involved providing diagnoses, treatments, and coordinating specialized care, ensuring continuous follow-up that guaranteed treatment effectiveness and patient satisfaction.
2. Prevention and Health Promotion: I actively participated in vaccination programs and educational campaigns to promote healthy lifestyles. These activities were fundamental in preventing diseases and improving the quality of life within the community.
3. Integrated Community Work: My role extended beyond the clinic to include home visits and participation in community activities. This allowed me to closely understand the needs of my patients and work on solutions tailored to their specific contexts.
4. Ongoing Training and Education: I consistently engaged in training programs that allowed me to update my clinical knowledge and skills. These trainings were essential to stay current with advancements in the medical field and enhance my professional competence.
5. Multidisciplinary Collaboration: I worked closely with other health professionals, including nurses, specialists, psychologists, and social workers. This collaborative approach enabled me to provide comprehensive care that addressed not only clinical aspects but also emotional and social issues.
6. Research and Evaluation: I participated in research projects aimed at assessing and improving public health strategies and programs. These projects were crucial for better understanding diseases and finding more effective ways to combat them.
7. Leadership in Healthcare: I led the PrEP program in the province of Matanzas, guiding all the polyclinics in the province.
