  • 40 per year), encompassing topics such as supervising employees in ways reflective of “labor’s values”, engaging union members as decision-makers, and confronting issues such as sexual harassment and racism in the labor movement
  • Recruited a team of instructors and spearheaded the creation of an innovative curriculum and training plans
  • Established and oversaw the implementation of a new capstone project component engaging all students in development and presenting a Leadership Action Plan to bring back to their union.

  • Dramatically raised the profile of the organization - in media, social media, and among stakeholders from national public officials to frontline workers
  • Planned, developed and facilitated training and train-the-trainer programs on a range of worker health, justice and organizing topics for diverse audiences
  • Provided training and capacity support for twenty-six worker-led community affiliates
  • Convened stakeholders including worker leaders, grassroots worker organizations, unions, and nonprofit legal and health professionals for sector-wide knowledge exchange and learning opportunities.

  • Re-built the organization following personnel and financial crises to becoming one of the most successful COSH groups in the country with a robust range of constituent led initiatives
  • Expanded the organization’s budget from $300,000 and staff of two to over $850,000 with a staff of nine, over 50 volunteers and a diverse funding base
  • Supported worker-led planning that resulted in the creation of a youth-led initiative, Teens Lead @ Work - the first of its kind in the nation, and the Immigrant Worker Center, the first worker center with a focus on worker health and safety in the country
  • Spearheaded worker-engaged participatory research initiatives resulting in the release of reports, media attention and institutionalized changes such as improved working conditions and stronger workplace protections
  • Convened labor-community-faith coalitions that successfully achieved passage of five critical laws: Child Labor reforms, deadly floor finishing product ban, a Temporary Worker’s Right to Know Act, increased funeral benefits for fallen workers, and public employee safety protections
  • Planned, developed and facilitated training and train the trainer programs on a range of worker health, justice and organizing topics for diverse audiences.

  • Recruited and trained over 50 community economic development partners to become hosts for Working Capital’s peer lending model
  • Developed nationally-recognized education curriculum earning it a Micro enterprise Award for Excellence from President Clinton in 1997
  • Conducted intake of prospective micro business owners, and provided training and support to over 200 incoming clients helping them gain leadership, budgeting, business planning and other skills to improve the success of their businesses and their peer groups.
