Competent in assessments of body functions and changes from illness to healthy status. Nurse documents and passes report to oncoming nurse accordingly. Places intravenous catheters and maintains its patency. Inserts Nasogastric tubes, assures placement per doctor's order with X-ray. Patient is knowledgeable of why NGT is being placed. Nutrition is maintained as per doctor's orders. Applies dressings to wounds as ordered and changes them accordingly. Communicates with nursing assistants or medical techs on proper care as the patient progresses. Inserts indwelling foley catheters and maintains patency of catheter, provides adequate hygiene. Records urine output. Maintains a safe environment to prevent falls, places fall precautions per unit policy. Monitors telemetry for any cardiac deviations, documents and reports to appropriate staff such as the charge nurse and doctor.
