- Worked as a primary RN in 5West as a Telemetry nurse, and takes care of Enhanced patients. Kaiser do not have a Step-Down unit in which similar acuity is called Enhanced Care. Patients’ population are mostly cardio-respiratory. This include chronic patients on ventilator from ICU, patients needing Dopamine or Dobutamine that are not titrated, with or without Lasix drip. Patients are on Cardizem and Amiodarone drip, patients on alcohol withdrawal; Geriatric, COPD, CHF needing BIPAP. We also receive post-operative cases who need close cardiac and respiratory monitoring, and receive patients from ED with Diabetic Ketoacidosis on Insulin Subcutaneous protocol.

- Worked as a Surgical ICU nurse. Patients’ population include pre and post operative on ventilator, and directly from operating room at night. Patients are deemed clean cases. SICU is adjacent to CVICU wherein SICU prepared patients prior to cardiac surgery. Most memorable was the use of leeches to absorb large carotid bleeds, and participated on starting the hypothermia protocol using ice packs.

- Worked as an ICU nurse. Patients’ population are mixed, no designated SICU, MICU. It is a Level II trauma center with a helipad. We did balloon pump and transferred patients to other hospitals for open heart surgery. Most memorable was using a Rotation bed called RotoProne bed to patients on ventilator with severe ARDS.

- Worked in the Coronary Care Unit and Intensive care Unit with a Burn unit. They had a large round tub with a lift, called as whirlpool for burn patients. Ventilators are Germany brands like Drager. ABG machines were in the unit and calibrated by RNs. Use of balloon pump were already obsolete at this time, 2D Echo machines were used instead.
