Summary

I taught writing to freshman and sophomores at the University of Alaska Anchorage for fifteen years and consistently received high scores from student evaluations. Before that I taught English at the high school level.

I believe strong writing skills are an incredibly valuable attribute in a person’s life, especially in higher education and the work environment. And I am committed to teaching students how to be strong writers.

My success as a writing teacher centers around writing as a process wherein students start by writing down what they know on a particular topic and then they begin to fine tune, to work at communicating more clearly, while adding additional important information.

I find that working through this process in class involving input from peers as I manage the discussion is very compelling for students and they quickly become invested in the quality of their writing.

I am a professional teacher focused on maximizing student learning potential through diverse instructional strategies and classroom management techniques. I am a skilled lecturer, discussion facilitator and hands-on leader focused on student success. I excel at meeting and exceeding school standards. I am a successful English teacher with expertise in building engaging lesson plans and communicating ideas to foster student comprehension. I am an expert at adapting course materials to meet established standards and individual academic capabilities. I am well-versed in motivating students to meet learning objectives.
